Chinese state media has called on Australia to follow New Zealand’s lead in how it deals with Beijing rather than being “filled with hostility toward China’s rise” and making “wrong judgments”.

New Zealand’s trade minister, Damien O’Connor, has also reaffirmed his country’s offer to mediate between Australia and China, suggesting that Canberra should “follow us” and speak with “a little more diplomacy from time to time”.
