During his four-plus decades of hosting Wheel of Fortune, Pat Sajak strived to keep the show as “just a game – but gradually, it became more than that”, he said as he signed off from his gig for the final time.

The show transformed into “a place where kids learn their letters, where people from other countries hone their English skills, where families came together along with friends and neighbors and entire generations”, Sajak remarked in a video released online ahead of his last Wheel of Fortune episode airing on Friday night. “What an honor to play even a small part in all of that.
