Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda deportation bill has cleared its key third reading in the House of Commons after a fractious lead-up during which divisions in the Conservative party came to the fore once again.
While the legislation has now passed its committee stage in the Commons, the prime minister’s authority over his party had already been dealt a blow after the resignations of two deputy chairs and a parliamentary private secretary. The vote passed by 320 votes to 476, a majority of 44.
