Foreign secretary demands explanation for ‘actions of consulate staff’ after attack on pro-democracy protester
The UK foreign secretary, James Cleverley, has summoned a senior Chinese diplomat to explain “apparent scenes of violence” after a pro-democracy protester was beaten in the grounds of the Chinese consulate in Manchester.
The Foreign Office said it was “extremely concerned” about the actions of Chinese consulate staff who appeared to be involved in the assault on the Hong Kong protester on Sunday.
